Texas Tumble

2008

The weather was great for this years edition of the Texas Tumble.  Donny Millar was superb in his role as host of this tremendous event.  He made sure everybody was well fed and every little aspect was taken care of.  There wasn't one disappointed person in attendance.  If you weren't there you missed a great time.  The women kept busy all day while the guys played with the Cubs.  New faces met everyone and old hands reaquainted themselves with each other.  Good news and bad news was exchanged and countless inside jokes came about.  One in particular has to do with a utility pole and transformer for an e-tank (ask Rick Spivey about that one).

Many projects were tackled that hadn't been planned.  If it was broke and it was there, it probably left in better condition.  Even Non Cubs were recipients of TLC.  The "Tahoe from Ohio" had work done on the exhaust after it developed a very loud noise five hours from the Tumble.  Great engineering and welding by several members resulted in a very quiet ride for it's occupants on their long journey home.

All in all everybody had a great time and definitely went home happy and eager for next year.

Day 1

Friday March 28, 2008

An early shot of the Cub line up.by afternoon several more had joined the row.

Rick (I'm Ready for My Morning Workout) Dulas supervises as Donny and Rick Spivey do a little adjusting to Blueboy.

Vince D looks on as Lurker Carl gives him some pointers on carb rebuilding.

Jim Becker arrives and the Texas Tumble pit crew springs into action to assist with unloading.

This group discusses the next step in their process of working on one of the many Cubs to make it to the shop.

Cubs aren't the only thing getting attention. Donny surveys the damage to Barnyard's exhaust.  After getting everything lined up with the help of Ralph and Bob McCarty manning the come-along, Camo took over and did an excellent job of welding a temporary patch.  Great Job guys.

Day 2

Saturday March 29, 2008

Rick (I'm no doctor, but I might have played one as a kid) Dulas (drspiff) performs surgery on the steering of Blue Boy.  It wasn't long before the little Cub was steering a lot better.

Lurker Carl busily works on one of the several carb projects.  Boy, was his experience welcome.  Waldo is a better Cub thanks to Carl's handicraft.  No squirrels were killed or harmed during this procedure.

Jim Becker, Rick Spivey and Billy Ray Brichter prepare this Cadet 70 to be transferred to from Ron Pruitt's trailer to Cub Bud's truck for it's journey to a new home.

The Kentucky Konnection

Rosanne (Mrs. Barnyard) and Connie (Mrs. Ralph) enjoy a chat while their husbands played with their toys.  Being a former Kentuckian, Rosanne caught up with news from home. (Gee Rosie, it's right across the river.

Rick Spivey gives a demonstration of his magneto skills as he works on Waldo's starting problem.  Waldo sure did get a lot of attention during his visit.

Rick (will this hammer work) Dulas shows what is not needed to adjust the bent steering tower on Waldo. Everybody wanted to see how to remedy this problem. We think we now know what those two holes in the platform are for.  Ain't that right Mr. Spivey?

Waldo Gets A Workout

Previous owner Dan England (left) and Rick Spivey each took Waldo for a spin after repairs were made.  I was afraid I would never get him back after that.  Rick was trying to figure out how to get Waldo on the plane with him.
